Children's Health

For the well being of the other children we should be grateful if you would inform us if your child is unwell. In the event of sickness and diarrhoea , our policy states that children should be clear of all symptoms for 48 hours before returning.

In the event your child contracts a serious or infectious illness we ask you to contact us as soon as possible so that we can take the appropriate action to ensure the wellbeing of  the children and staff in the setting.

We are committed to ensuring that your child has access to healthy food during their time with the Pre-School.  Our current Food & Drink policy can be found on the policies pages and iIf your child has any specific food allergies, or you require more information, please do not hesitate to speak to us.

Following the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have not been providing healthy cooked meals but instead the children have been enjoying packed lunches provided by their parents.  This has proved very successful as the staff join the children for lunch.  We would however urge you to make simple food swaps to reduce your child's sugar intake.  For example, some popular cake bars and snacks are shown to have more than a child's maximum daily intake, (the equivalent of 5 sugar lumps), in just one serving! Public Health England's Change4Life campaign has some useful suggestions for healthy alternative swaps.  Please visit their website, the link is provided below, for more details.  Also below, is also a leaflet providing information and suggestions to encourage your child to bring a healthy packed lunch to Pre-school.

Over the course of our acaedmic year, the children will also be learning about ways to be healthy, the fun of undertaking exercise, the importance of good personal hygiene as well as practicing good oral health routines.

We shall be grateful if you will kindly quarter foods such as cherry tomates and grapes to prevent the dangers of choking.  Sausages should be cut lengthways in quarters for the same reason.  More information is available on the below websites whch are well worth visiting.

Also, being more active and getting our hearts pumping can make us feel great!  It helps us to be healthier and ultimately, live longer.  We know that life can be busy and we often don't make time for healthier meals.  But the truth is, preparing and enjoying healthier meals can be easier than you may think.  Plus, they don't have to cost a lot of money!

To show just how easy it can be, change4life have created lots of quick, yet healthy, recipes and activities for you to undertake with your children.  For more information, please click the link below:

Childhood illnesses - Exclusion periods

From time to time children will become poorly especially during the winter months.  Below is the Government's HPECS Guidance detailing exclusions and reportable diseases that we use to help promote the health and well being of children and staff in the setting.  For the majority of illnesses such as coughs and colds children can attend Pre-school if they feel well enough to do so.  However if you are unsure of  any illness which may prevent your child attending, please ring us.  You may find the above Guidance useful to refer to initially.   We also appreciate you letting us know if your child is not attending Pre-school due to any ailment.  Thanks.
