Our Learning Activities:

Here at Threemilestone Preschool, we firmly believe in the positive impact that books can have on teaching children and the enjoyment of sharing these stories with their families. We focus on a particular story over a 2 week period as we have noticed in the past through evaluating our planning that this allows the children to really consolidate their learning and extend their listening and attention skills. By implementing a 2 weekly planning schedule, this allows us to expose the children to a variety of stimulating activities to develop and inspire the children, it also enables us to extend and challenge the children’s learning and development. During this time, we teach the children new words and vocabulary to deepen their understanding in a variety of scenarios.

As Staff we thoroughly enjoy this approach to learning as the children mirror our excitement, which is not only rewarding but also inspiring….we hope you feel this way too!

Stickman-Week 2

There was much excitement all over the preschool this week as we wrapped up our Christmas nativity play. We are so proud of the children and all the effort they put into it, especially with learning the songs! We even had a special visitor who brought each child a Christmas gift. Here Younis is whispering his christmas list to Father Christmas!

During the week, we also enjoyed making simple patterns using natural things like sticks, pinecones, and leaves, and crafting their very own chocolate log stickman! It seemed like a very tasty activity.

Finally, the children took home their rainbow fish bags filled with their cards and decorations, all lovingly handmade. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at Threemilestone Preschool.

Ollie is excitedly looking forward to bringing home his Christmas bag filled with all the wonderful things he has created.

Stickman -Week 1

The children were invited to paint their stickman Christmas cards using a stick! This was an enjoyable activity. Here, Ava is attentively applying brown paint to her card using the tip of the stick, showing great focus.

Other activities this week involved creating a clay Christmas decoration to hang on their tree at home, measuring sticks to determine which one is the tallest and shortest, and combining movement and imagination through storytelling by engaging in stickman yoga!

Younis is carefully matching the shapes to the right outlines on the Christmas tree, great job Younis!

The Rainbow Fish -Week 2

The week began with decorating the pre-school Christmas tree. The children eagerly helped to put baubles and tinsel on the tree, their eyes filled with excitement. We also started practising for our pre-school nativity play.

The children enjoyed matching and recognising numbers using our numbered fish shapes and boats floating on the water. The tune of "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Once I Caught a Fish Alive" could be heard amidst the laughter. The children took a fish scale home to decorate, and we received an enthusiastic response, with eager children wanting to show us their fantastic artwork!

There was so much happiness as they saw their scales added to our giant rainbow fish.

Here, Senara is joyfully showing Lisa her beautiful scale.

Finley is proudly pointing out his colourful rainbow fish scale that he decorated at home!

Wow, Mia, your shiny scale looks amazing with all those sparkles and jewels you've added!

The Rainbow Fish-Week 1

We've had a wonderful week at pre-school! The children have been fully immersed in exploring ocean animals during our water tray play, talking about what they might find in the sea. We've also been busy decorating our paper bags, which will be filled with their Christmas creations to take home. The children have used fish-shaped sponges for decorating and have added shiny scales to the fish, inspired by the rainbow fish in our focused story.

Here, Ollie is holding up an octopus and counting how many arms it has!

Out of the Blue- Week 2

This week, during our story-centred learning, we had a wonderful time creating colour patterns with blocks. The children were encouraged to think about what comes next in the sequence and were supported in designing their own patterns. They thoroughly enjoyed their "rainbow snack" last week, so we decided to continue it again this week. This decision brought a lot of excitement and enthusiasm among the children.

We have begun making our calendars to take home, and the children have started creating their pictures for them. Tanaya dipped his paintbrush into the paint and transferred it onto the paper, voicing, "It's a dragon, needs a tail and legs." Such an amazing painting of a dragon, Tanaya!

Jasper is beaming with pride while he holds up his marvellous painting of a car.

Jacob has his rainbow snack certificate showing he chose a yellow banana, green cucumber, an orange carrot, and red grapes! That looks so tasty, Jacob!

Out of the Blue- Week 1

What a vibrant week! We learnt Makaton to sign the names of various colours, and the children chose their very own rainbow snack. We delved into recycling by collecting litter around the preschool. Following this, the children expressed their creativity using sticky tape, glue, and lots of imagination.

They also had a wonderful time sorting coloured animals to match their respective colours. Adam, full of confidence and delight, shouted, "That's two!" when he successfully paired the correct number of dinosaurs with the matching number card!

Finley, keep an eye on your snack! it looks like your dogs would love to have a taste of your rainbow treat!

It's lovely to see Mia, Senara, Hope, and Ava enjoying dressing up as Princesses!

Spookyrumpus-Week 2

This week, the children have been exploring the theme of Bonfire Night and fireworks, which are also part of celebrations for festivals like Diwali and Chinese New Year. We've been using natural materials such as twigs to make firework paintings, and the children have been practising counting backwards and jumping up like firework rockets!

They have also been focusing on our 'Spookyrumpus' story, having a conversation about what they observe. When Aashwin pointed to the picture of the moon, he stated, "Moon is up in the sky," and added, "In the night."

Senara is using a stick to create her beautiful firework picture.

Spookyrumpus-Week 1

The children have been exploring the wonders of autumn, like fallen leaves, pinecones, tree bark, and pumpkins. We've enjoyed trying experiments to find out which items float and which ones sink. We've also created potions and zoomed around on cardboard broomsticks! There has been plenty of laughter and dancing as we've participated in the skeleton shake dance!

When Younis decided to take a closer look at the conker shell, he used a magnifying glass to explore its details. As he was carefully observing it, he remarked with interest, "It's bigger." With growing excitement, he enthusiastically added, "It's spiky too!"

Hope exploring whether cones and shells will float or sink!

Aashwin is proudly displaying his spooky handprint picture of ghosts!

Are you able to hear the sound of the sea in that shell, Adam?

Week Beginning 6th October 2025

The Colour Monster-Week 2

The children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves while engaging in the fun activity of matching the "Colour Monster" emotion colours to faces showing a variety of different feelings. They did this using paints to express those emotions visually. Additionally, the children have been creatively using mirrors in a clever way by placing them along the lines of symmetry. This allowed them to explore and understand shapes more deeply, along with observing their reflections in an interesting manner. We had a wonderful time with the sand and water tray outside, enjoying some sensory play. The children also took the initiative to draw shapes on their own with chalk, keeping up with our shape theme.

Summer has discovered a heart using a Mirror and looking at its reflection!

Evelyn and Summer are using paints to colour in the shapes, carefully dabbing their brushes, with a much-needed hard hat!

Week Beginning 29th September 2025

The Colour Monster - Week 1

This week, we've enjoyed a delightful journey of discovering our emotions with our friend, the Colour Monster! The children have joined in calming yoga sessions and have created faces using playdough. We've been using mirrors to observe our reflections, allowing us to create expressions that convey our feelings. Here, Lumina is joyfully admiring her beautiful smile!

Additionally, we've become explorers, searching for hidden Colour Monsters around the classroom. For morning self-registration, the children have been identifying their own name cards and placing them into the feeling box that matches their emotions for that morning.

Jacob and Ava are enjoying themselves while engaging in Messy play!

Jasper is showing us which card represents the 'happy' emotion.

1,2,3, Do The Dinosaur - Week 2

The children have been engaging in the activity of sorting the dinosaurs based on their size, which has allowed them to learn and use descriptive words such as biggest, smallest, and middle-sized. In addition to this, we have been delving into the world of music by exploring a variety of musical instruments. During this exploration, the children demonstrated excellent skills in listening and understanding as they used the instruments to express different parts of a story through the use of both loud and soft sounds. Everyone was very eager to have their heights measured on the height chart. Hope, in particular, proudly returned to the chart, pointed at the mark indicating her height, exclaiming with joy, "That’s me!"

Hope having her height recorded!
