Fairytale Stories- week 1.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our first week of focused learning on fairytales! Our activities have revolved around the stories we have been exploring. After reading "Jack and the Beanstalk," the children had a wonderful time planting a variety of seeds. They happily scooped soil into little pots, pressed the tiny seeds into the soil, tucked them in, and then watered them using the watering can, understanding that this helps them grow!

Here is Summer gently giving some water to the seeds she has just planted!

After hearing the story of "The Elves and the Shoemaker," the children were excited to trace around their own feet. Once their foot outlines were complete, they decorated them with tissue paper and sparkles! Continuing with the craft theme, the children used paper shapes to create their very own castle on paper. This sparked conversations about princes, princesses, and fire-breathing dragons!

We set up an obstacle course in the garden and pretended to be "Little Red Riding Hood," walking through the woods to visit Grandma. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity, balancing, jumping, and hoping their way carefully, all while being cautious not to bump into the wolf!

Tanaya and Finley were truly fascinated by the small size of the seeds as they examined them in their hands!

Jacob is navigating the obstacle course. "Watch out for the wolf!"

Ollie is excited to have his feet traced so he can decorate them like the elves from the story!

Freddie and the Fairy- week 2

What a wonderfully bustling week we have all experienced together! The children have been actively engaged in a wide variety of creative and exciting activities, such as the delightful art of wand making, where they used their imagination to craft unique and magical creations. Additionally, the children participated in the beautiful tradition of tying wishes, which involved carefully attaching colourful ribbons to our trees, creating a lovely sight filled with hopes and dreams.

Here is Rosie tying her piece of ribbon to the branch of a tree. I wonder what her wish might be!

Furthermore, we have had an exhilarating time navigating through obstacle courses set up in the garden, which allowed the children to develop their physical skills while having fun outdoors.

In addition to this, we dove into the whimsical world of bubble painting, where the children enjoyed using bubble wands to create marvellous artwork. To add to the fun, we also played with shaving foam and squishy playdough, providing endless opportunities for sensory exploration and imaginative play. Each activity has truly added to the joy of our week!

Look out, everyone! Finley is using his wand to cast a magical spell!

Ava has done an excellent job writing her name in the shaving foam! Well done!

Freddie and the Fairy- week 1

The children have absolutely loved this week's book, and their enthusiasm has been heartwarming to see. This story is not just entertaining, it plays an important role in helping them understand that each one of us is unique in our own way. It conveys the wonderful message that it is our differences that truly make us special and interesting individuals. By embracing these differences, we create an environment where we can celebrate what makes each person unique, allowing everyone to shine in their own special way.

Throughout the week, we have enjoyed some truly wonderful activities that have complemented our learning. One of the highlights has been learning Makaton signs for '5 Little Speckled Frogs.' The children have engaged enthusiastically with this activity, and it has been delightful to watch them using the signs while singing the song.

Continuing with the frog theme the children have been creating frog collage pictures using glue, green tissue paper, and card. Look at Tanaya's lovely collage frog! It’s no surprise that you have such a beaming smile Tanaya, it’s really beautiful! Great job! Accompanying this activity is often the chorus of "ribbit ribbit," followed by a few giggles. They have also been decorating the clay shapes they made last week, adding "fairy dust" (glitter) to make them sparkle.

Dylan is focused on placing the last brick on his tower!

Ava has been having fun using the dinosaur playdough cutters and excitedly saying, "Look, I've made a T-rex!"

Lumina had a wonderful time sprinkling "fairy dust" on her clay shape!

I want my hat back - week 2

This week, we have been having an exciting time exploring the various animals that are featured in the delightful story we have been reading. To enhance our learning experience, we have been using magnifying glasses to closely investigate a variety of natural items that we have placed in our tuff trays. These items include pieces of bark, colourful leaves, interesting cones, sturdy branches, and delicate petals, all of which can be found in the enchanting woodland where the bear and his animal friends live.

Evelyn has a big smile on her face as she enjoys playing with some toy woodland animals in what would be their natural habitat.

In addition to our investigations, we have also had a wonderful time creating our very own bears using our handprints. Each child has taken the opportunity to choose different shapes for their bears' hats, and we are excited to showcase these creative artistic expressions on our classroom wall for everyone to see.

Since the weather has been absolutely lovely, we have decided to take our creative activities outside, where we can fully enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. We have been engaging in shape painting, which has allowed us to explore different forms and colours, while also making fun hats for ourselves to wear. Throughout all these activities, we have been paying close attention to the story, particularly focusing on how the bear demonstrates politeness by saying “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” when interacting with his friends. We have had meaningful discussions about the importance of these lovely words and have explored the reasons why they are considered polite choices in our interactions with others.

Jacob created a fantastic hat using a heart-shaped sponge!

With Tracey's support, Dylan placed his hand in the paint to create a handprint bear!

I want my hat back - week 1

This week has been a wonderful and engaging time for the children as they have embraced the exciting role of shape detectives. They have eagerly explored the garden, joyfully searching to discover hidden shapes and those present in their everyday surroundings. With chunky chalk, the children have been happily drawing various shapes, and they have also enjoyed a different painting experience using water and paintbrushes. as well as this they have been matching shapes to their correct outline. Alongside their key workers, the children have enthusiastically created patterns and pictures with the plastic shapes. They have also been talking about the different shapes they are using, as well as the bright and varied colours.

Younis expressed that "My dinosaur needs Diamonds, triangles, rectangles," and also mentioned, "It needs teeth and another triangle for the body and a tail a very long tail!"

What a fantastic dinosaur shape you’ve made, Younis!

Hope made butterflies using two halves of a hexagon. She then exclaimed, "Look, I've made an 'h', and Hope begins with an 'h'!"

It was a beautiful day, and Lisa and the children had a wonderful time listening to the story outside!
