Freddie and the Fairy- week 1

The children have absolutely loved this week's book, and their enthusiasm has been heartwarming to see. This story is not just entertaining, it plays an important role in helping them understand that each one of us is unique in our own way. It conveys the wonderful message that it is our differences that truly make us special and interesting individuals. By embracing these differences, we create an environment where we can celebrate what makes each person unique, allowing everyone to shine in their own special way.

Throughout the week, we have enjoyed some truly wonderful activities that have complemented our learning. One of the highlights has been learning Makaton signs for '5 Little Speckled Frogs.' The children have engaged enthusiastically with this activity, and it has been delightful to watch them using the signs while singing the song.

Continuing with the frog theme the children have been creating frog collage pictures using glue, green tissue paper, and card. Look at Tanaya's lovely collage frog! It’s no surprise that you have such a beaming smile Tanaya, it’s really beautiful! Great job! Accompanying this activity is often the chorus of "ribbit ribbit," followed by a few giggles. They have also been decorating the clay shapes they made last week, adding "fairy dust" (glitter) to make them sparkle.

Dylan is focused on placing the last brick on his tower!

Ava has been having fun using the dinosaur playdough cutters and excitedly saying, "Look, I've made a T-rex!"

Lumina had a wonderful time sprinkling "fairy dust" on her clay shape!

I want my hat back - week 2

This week, we have been having an exciting time exploring the various animals that are featured in the delightful story we have been reading. To enhance our learning experience, we have been using magnifying glasses to closely investigate a variety of natural items that we have placed in our tuff trays. These items include pieces of bark, colourful leaves, interesting cones, sturdy branches, and delicate petals, all of which can be found in the enchanting woodland where the bear and his animal friends live.

Evelyn has a big smile on her face as she enjoys playing with some toy woodland animals in what would be their natural habitat.

In addition to our investigations, we have also had a wonderful time creating our very own bears using our handprints. Each child has taken the opportunity to choose different shapes for their bears' hats, and we are excited to showcase these creative artistic expressions on our classroom wall for everyone to see.

Since the weather has been absolutely lovely, we have decided to take our creative activities outside, where we can fully enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. We have been engaging in shape painting, which has allowed us to explore different forms and colours, while also making fun hats for ourselves to wear. Throughout all these activities, we have been paying close attention to the story, particularly focusing on how the bear demonstrates politeness by saying “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” when interacting with his friends. We have had meaningful discussions about the importance of these lovely words and have explored the reasons why they are considered polite choices in our interactions with others.

Jacob created a fantastic hat using a heart-shaped sponge!

With Tracey's support, Dylan placed his hand in the paint to create a handprint bear!

I want my hat back - week 1

This week has been a wonderful and engaging time for the children as they have embraced the exciting role of shape detectives. They have eagerly explored the garden, joyfully searching to discover hidden shapes and those present in their everyday surroundings. With chunky chalk, the children have been happily drawing various shapes, and they have also enjoyed a different painting experience using water and paintbrushes. as well as this they have been matching shapes to their correct outline. Alongside their key workers, the children have enthusiastically created patterns and pictures with the plastic shapes. They have also been talking about the different shapes they are using, as well as the bright and varied colours.

Younis expressed that "My dinosaur needs Diamonds, triangles, rectangles," and also mentioned, "It needs teeth and another triangle for the body and a tail a very long tail!"

What a fantastic dinosaur shape you’ve made, Younis!

Hope made butterflies using two halves of a hexagon. She then exclaimed, "Look, I've made an 'h', and Hope begins with an 'h'!"

It was a beautiful day, and Lisa and the children had a wonderful time listening to the story outside!
